The law requires certain information is put on business stationery. This is addition to the laws that regulate what names businesses may use. Many businesses break the law, some inadvertently. Business stationery, includes not only letters but also other documents, such as order forms, and, in some cases e-mails. All documents must include the full name of a limited company in legible characters. Business letters and order forms must also include a limited company's place of registration and registered number, and the address of the registered office. Partnerships and sole traders also have obligations to include names and an address for service. There are additional requirements where the business name is not the full corporate name, and for some limited companies and partnerships.

Breach of these rules leaves proprietors open not only to prosecution but also in some cases to personal liability for business debts. It makes no sense to set up a limited liability company and then leave yourself open to a personal liability.
