Harris & Harris has been home of the Diocesan Registrar for the Diocese of Bath & Wells for more than 100 years.  

Christopher Jones has been appointed personally as Diocesan Registrar and Legal Secretary to the Bishop of Bath and Wells.  In serving as Diocesan Registrar, Christopher follows in the footsteps of Roland Callaby, Time Berry, Martin Cavender, and our founders before them. 

Our Ecclesiastical Law team aim to guide our clients through the requirements of ecclesiastical and charity law as straightforwardly as possible.

Our work includes:

  • Advice on canon law and governance matters
  • Advising on the licencing, management and use of churches,  churchyards and church property
  • The legal work in relation to the appointment and licencing of clergy, lay readers and lay officers
  • Clergy disciplinary matters
  • Issuing Marriage licences in circumstances where wedding banns cannot be called
  • Handling the application and issue of Faculties (permissions for work on churches, churchyards, alterations and memorials); and
  • Property transactions and title queries

Harris & Harris also acts for a number of other Anglican and free church organisations throughout England and Wales.  The close and constructive working relationships we have developed with our church and charity clients have helped to support their mission and growth.
